SPORTS ELIGIBILITY CHECK
WILL BE EVERY THURSDAY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR
· You must be passing four classes to be eligible to participate in sports.
· Eligibility checks for grades are completed every week.
· In order for your assignments to be included in your grade, they must be turned in by the end of the day on the Wednesday of the eligibility check. Any work turned in after that time will not be included in your grade.
· If you are ineligible, your suspension will begin the NEXT WEEK MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
REMINDER ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Attention 10th and 11th graders: If you are interested in becoming a physician, you might wish to apply for a scholarship to attend OsteoCHAMPS Summer Precollege Enrichment Program at MSU. The Osteopathic Foundation of West Michigan offers full scholarships which will cover the $2000 cost of the program. More information is available at www.osteopathicfoundation.org and
the deadline is April 16.

The Michigan State University Office of Gifted and Talented Education has two programs for high school students.
Attention 9th-11th graders: If you are interested in a career in engineering, you may be interested in summer programs at Michigan Tech. You can receive additional information at www.youthprograms.mtu.edu The application deadline is April 1, 2010.
The 2009-2010 required meetings for the Wade McCree Incentive Program at GVSU are as follows:
Mandatory attendance for parents of seniors March 6, 2010 All grade levels. The meetings are held from 9AM to Noon at the Michigan Alternative & Renewable Energy Center, 200 Viridian Dr, 616-331-6900.
The free and reduced lunch application is available on the Muskegon Public Schools web site.

SCHOLARSHIPS/COLLEGE INFORMATION...
Get help filling out the FAFSA! College Goal Sunday is February 14th from 2-4pm at Muskegon Community College. Bring your family's completed 2009 tax forms (or W2s and 1099s), social security numbers, driver's licenses and 2009 untaxed income records. You will be able to complete the form and file right there!

The Western Shores Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals will offer a $1000 scholarship to Muskegon area students pursuing an office/administrative assistant, secretarial and/or office administration career. You must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. If you are
interested, please pick up an application in the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 30.
Attention Juniors: QuestBridge's National College Match Program pairs outstanding low-income high school seniors with admission and full scholarships to QuestBridge's 27 partner colleges (Yale, Harvard and Notre Dame are examples). Awards include scholarships to college summer programs, individualized admissions counseling and college admissions conference invitaions. Information is available at their webite www.questbridge.org and the deadline is March 29.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Nu Phi Omega chapter is offering scholarships to a graduating high school female who will enter her freshman year of college in the fall of 2010. You must write and essay and have three letters of recommendation and participate in an interview. Please pick up an application in the Guidance Office. The deadline is April 10.
Sysco/SPARC is sponsoring an essay contest for seniors. Awards are in the amounts of
1-$1000, 2-$500 and 4-$250. You may pick up information in the Guidance Office. The deadline is March 26.
Muskegon Community College offers a number of Performance Based Scholarships intended to help those students who are strong in a particular subject area (math, science, English, foreign language, art, theater, physical education, etc.). If you plan on attending MCC you may pick up an application in the Guidance Office. Applications are due April 15.
If you are attending the University of Michigan and plan to study a Southeast Asian (Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino or Indonesian) language, you may wish to apply for a $1,000 scholarship. Information and applications are available at www.ii.umich.edu/cseas and the deadline is March 30.
Muskegon Community College offers scholarships through their Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Interested seniors should pick up an application in the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 9.
Muskegon Community College Business Department is offering a $200-a-year merit
scholarship for tuition for each of the following five areas:
1. Accounting
2. Business Administration
3. Computer Information Systems
4. DECA Distinguished Service (Marketing/Management)
5. Office Systems Education
The deadline for applying is April 15. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.
Muskegon Community College’s Board of Trustees Scholarships are available to outstanding high school seniors who enroll at MCC as full-time students and meet the following qualifications: GPA of 3.2+, be a legal resident of Muskegon County or graduate from a Muskegon County high school, submit an application and enroll as a full time student in the Fall and Winter of 2010-2011. Interested seniors may pick up an application from the Guidance Office. The deadline is
May 7.
If you or any member of your immediate family are members of Community Schools Credit Union, you may wish to apply for thier $1000 scholarship. You will need to write a 300-500 word essay. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline is April 15.

If you have been in foster care for one consecutive year at the time of your 18th birthday OR have been adopted or taken into legal guardianship out of foster care or upon the death of both your parents after your 16th birthday OR have lost both parents to death before you were 18 and have not been adopted or taken into legal gueardianship, you will want to check out scholarships through the Orphan Foundation of America (OFA). The website is www.orphan.org and the
deadline is March 31. Many students who are eligible for OFA scholarships are also eligible for monies through the federal Education and Training Voucher or Chafee dollars at www.statevoucher.org.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Alpha Kappa Chapter is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to young women interested in pursuing a career in education. If you are interested in this scholarship, pick up an application in the Guidance Office. The deadline is April 20.
Student Insights Market Research group is offering scholarships of $500-$4000. You must complete a 15-20 minute survey about colleges in your area. The scholarships will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The survey is available at www.studentinsights.com and the deadline is April 22.
The Michigan Retailer Association (MRA) has launched its scholarship competition for the 2009-2010 school year. To be eligible the student or his/her parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA. To find out if a business is a MRA member the student should check with the employer. Students may request an application by calling 800.366.3699 or going online at www.retailers.com Requests must be made by March 15 and completed applications are due April 1.
The Michigan State Troopers Assistance Fund offers an annual scholarship program to all graduating seniors in the state of Michigan who will attend college or trade school. Selected scholarship recipients will receive an award certificate and a check for $1000 to the college or trade school they plan to attend. MSTAF believes that students who participate in extra curricular activities and community service are motivated to further their education. If this sounds like you, pick up an application in the Guidance Office. The deadline is April 1, 2010.
Seniors who plan to be a teacher and possibly a coach should apply for the $500 Steve Hoffman Future Educator Award. You must have a GPA of 2.5+, excellent school citizenship, career plans that include being a teacher and possibly a coach and have participated in at least one varsity sport. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline is March 19.
If you are uncertain that college is for you, a new site is offered at www.college.gov. This simply worded, engaging website provides information about applying to, attending, and graduating form college. It features first-person accounts of students who overcame challeges such as peer pressure, lack of family support, and financial barriers. A good follow-up is then www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov to further explore ways of paying for college.
The University of Michigan chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering 2 scholarships ($500 and $1000) to males who will be attending the college in the fall. You are not under any obligation to join the fraternity. The application is available at http://uofmsigep.com/. The deadline is May 14th.
Attention Seniors: If you are planning to attend Ferris State University, you should visit their website at www.ferris.edu for a full listing of scholarships and applications. The deadline for many of the scholarships is May 1st.
Attention Seniors: If you plan on attending MCC or Baker this fall you may want to apply for a Muskegon Rotary Club Scholarship. The club awards up to $2,000 to be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies. The funds are available in increments of $1000 for two years. The deadline for this scholarship is March 26, 2010. You may pick up an application in the Guidance Office.
Family Financial Credit Union is sponsoring one $500 scholarship. To apply, you must be a member of FFCU, be a graduating senior who has been accepted to a Michigan college/university and have a GPA of at least 3.0. The deadline is April 9, 2010.Attention Seniors:
Michigan AAA awards a $1,000 scholarship to two graduating seniors who can document that they participated in the AAA Michigan Safety Patrol Program. Students must also demonstrate good academic standing and be involved in the community service or extra curricular activities. If you meet these qualifications, you may pick up an application for this scholarship in the Guidance Office. The application must be turned in to your counselor by April 1, 2010.
Community Foundation for Muskegon County scholarship applications will be available beginning Nov. 1 at www.cffmc.org. Click on (scholarships" and then on "how to apply." Numerous scholarships are available. Top students in the class should apply, as well as those planning to go to MCC or Baker College. Scholarships are also available to students seeking a two year degree or vocational/technical training. Application forms are due by March 1 and finacial forms are due by April 1.
Michigan Oil and Gas Producers Education Foundation is offering a scholarship to students who plan to pursue a degree in a field of study leading to employment in the crude oil and natural gas industry. The scholarship amount is a minimum of $500. You must have a GPA of 3.0+ to apply. Applications are available at www.mogpef.org and the deadline is April 1, 2010.
Scholarships are available through the American Legion in amounts varying from $500-$20,000. Information and applications are available at www.michiganlegion.org
The Epilepsy Council of West Michigan would like to announce that the Joel Bierens Scholarship is available to an area student who is being treated for epilepsy. This is a $500 award. Please see the Guidance Office for additional information.
